Homegrown Goodness: How Plant Magic’s Harvest Spices Up Local Menus

At Plant Magic we understand the importance of producing products which are developed by growers, for growers. This is why we test all our products on our own grows.

This year we’ve been busy growing a variety of fruits vegetables in our polytunnel, all with Plant Magic nutrients and grown in either NutSystems or IWS Systems.

We grew our produce using Plant Magic 60/40 Supreme, Soil Supreme, and hydroponics.

Plant Magic 60/40 Supreme combines 60% clay pebbles and 40% coco, making it perfect for plants requiring good drainage and high nutrient retention. This media was treated with Plant Magic Coco A&B, a two-part base nutrient which infuses the media with the perfect levels of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium. These are vital elements for plant growth, regardless of the media used.

The vegetables grown in Plant Magic Soil Supreme were treated with Plant Magic Soil Grow base nutrient and Mycorrhizal Granules. These granules add beneficial Mycorrhizal fungus to the growing media, which protects the plants’ root system by out-competing pathogens for space and nutrients in the rootzone. Later in the growth cycle, these plants were treated with Plant Magic Soil Bloom to initiate and support the plant through the flowering process. According to our in-house grower, our juicy tomatoes were supported in their growth with Plant Magic Magne-Cal+. This solution prevents and cures magnesium deficiency, which tomato plants can be prone to, and boosts your plants’ phosphorus and potassium uptake.

Plants grown in our hydroponic systems were boosted with Plant Magic Hydro A&B base nutrients. Like the plants grown in coco and soil-based media, those grown in hydroponic systems can be supported with Plant Magic Root Stimulant, Boost, Platinum PK 9/18, and Plant Magic Silicon. Plant Magic Boost delivers bio stimulants and growth hormones to help your plants during the first stages of the bloom phase. A unique and complex make-up of biostimulants, amino acids and high levels of sulphur, Platinum PK 9/18 is incredibly powerful and recommended to professional, hands-on growers. Our hydroponic systems were regularly flushed with Plant Magic Pure Clean to keep the inner workings of the system free from solution and salt build-up.

Regardless of the technique used, all produce in our polytunnel was given the best start in life with Plant Magic Root Stimulant. This product boosts root development from day one, ensuring that the plant can grow a large healthy root mass. Plants with a large root mass are more capable of absorbing nutrients from their environment, are physically stronger, and better equipped for fighting off plant pathogens.

By harnessing the power of these cutting-edge growing systems and Plant Magic, we’ve grown an abundance of delicious, high-quality fruit and veg – more than the team at Plant Magic can eat.

To prevent the harvest going to waste and to allow others to experience the amazing taste of homegrown produce we’ve donated a selection of chillis, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers to local restaurants, and food outlets.

Sheffield Dragon

The latest recipient of our little spicy friends was Sheffield Dragon, who recently produced a bundle of chilli sauces at three different spice levels— Mad Mango (a mild sauce made from mango and Habanero chillis), Screeching Scotch (medium, using Scotch bonnets), and Naughty Naga (hot and spicy, using Naga chillis). These chilli sauces were created as gifts for employees at Global Air Supplies, which were given out at their annual Christmas raffle and Secret Santa event. These delicious sauces were also given to customers to thank them for their continued patronage over the year.

The Cock Inn

Located in Birdwell, Barnsley, South Yorkshire the Cock Inn is a family orientated pub which serves both traditional English dishes and an authentic Indian menu. The chefs, Sal and Esamel were delighted to receive the produce from Plant Magic, in particular the chillis which they described as “amazingly fresh and as good quality as the high-end bird’s eye chillis”.

The Thai Street Food Van

Another beneficiary of our abundant vegetable harvest was the Thai Street Food van, which offers a wide range of homely Thai favourites. Based in Bolton, this small business covers corporate events, gigs and festivals, and weddings across England.

OnPAR Health

As part of giving back to the community, we donated some of our vegetables to OnPAR Health, an exclusive personal training gym based in Worsbrough Dale, Barnsley. They take a holistic approach to health, providing nutritious meals and meal prep advice as part of their rehabilitation treatments.

Plant Magic are always looking for local, small businesses and good causes to which we can donate our seasonal, homegrown produce. If you are based in the Rotherham and Barnsley area and are interested in getting involved in 2025, please get in touch!
